HOW TO VIEW PT SERIES DATA RECORDINGS ON A PC 1. Go to the Application Processor (example AP#1, AP#2 etc.) that is running the application (example ISDN, Frame Relay etc.) where the data recording was made. 2. Go to the "Format" topic. Press F1 (Menu), select the format that you would like the data to appear (example timestamps, hex, mnemonic, complete for layer 1, 2, 3 etc.). Exit the Format menu. 3. Go to the "Utilities" topic. 4. Press F1 (Convert Data to ASCII). 5. Enter the data recording name in the text field labelled "Convert Data File:" and the ASCII file name in the text field labelled "to ASCII File:". When the ASCII File is created, the PT will automatically append two digits to the file (example .00, .01 etc.), so do NOT place an extension in the ASCII file name. Example: Convert Data File: WD3:ISDN.DAT to ASCII File: WD3:ISDN Press . 6. The next screen allows the user to select a portion of the data recording to be converted OR the entire data recording. To select a portion, move the cursor to the start of the data you would like to convert and press "Set Start", then move the cursor to the end and press "Select End". To select the entire data recording, press "ALL". Then Press . 7. An ASCII file will be created on the PT Series hard disk. An extension will automatically be appended (example WD3:ISDN.00). To verify the name of this file: - press the key - go to the "Files" top - press F1 (Directory) - move the cursor to the "Current Device" menu item - if you are not at the hard drive partition where the ASCII file is located (example WD3), then press F5 (Hard Drive Menu), move the cursor to the correct hard drive partition (example WD3), press F3 (Select Hard Drive). You can now view the directory listing and see the file that was created by the ASCII conversion (example ISDN.00, ISDN.01). 8. Press the key. This will bring you to the Home Menu topic bar. 9. Prepare a DOS diskette to copy the ASCII file to. You MUST use a double density (720 KB) DOS diskette formatted on your PC with a label. The diskette MUST be formatted with a label. 10. Place the DOS diskette into the floppy disk drive on the left (DR0:). 11. Go to the "DOS-Files" topic. Press F2 (Copy). Enter the ASCII file name of the data recording in the text field labelled "Copy file:". Enter the file name again in the text field labelled "to file:" and specify the destination drive as DR0. Example: Copy file: WD3:ISDN.00 to file: DR0:ISDN.TXT You can now copy the ASCII text file from your DOS diskette to your PC and view the file using any text editor. NOTE: If the ASCII file is greater than 720 KB, you must use Kermit to transfer the file to your PC. See the PT500, PT502 or PT540 User Manual for information on how to use Kermit.
